Overview
This product combines HDPE drums regrind, HDPE blue drums scrap, HDPE plastic scrap, HDPE plastic drum scrap, HDPE regrind, and material described as HDPE drums (whole or fragment drum bodies). It is the broadest rigid HDPE drum-centred description in the set.
HDPE provides chemical resistance and stiffness for industrial packaging. Drum streams differ from bottle or crate streams in typical wall thickness, pigment loading, and presence of steel chimes or closures.
Forms and contaminants
- Regrind: variable particle size distributions
- Bales: compressed drum bodies or mixed rigids
- Residues: adhesives, product films, multilayer labels
- Metals: rings, clips, bungs
Recycling outcomes
Washed flake, melt-filtered melt, and pelletised HDPE for non-food and industrial applications are typical. Property targets depend on incoming mix and compounding with virgin or additives.
Polymer science note
Repeated heat cycles can narrow molecular weight distribution and reduce toughness unless chain extenders or fresh resin dilution are applied.
Origin: South Africa.
