Overview
PET lumps Grade A are agglomerated polyester scrap with controlled colour and contamination relative to lower grades. Typical sources include agglomerated clean film or preform trim. Common outlets are sheet, strapping, fibre, and dilution into bottle-flake formulations.
Physical and process notes
- Bulk density and lump size distribution influence hopper flow and crusher motor load
- Internal moisture can persist—drying curves differ from thin flake
- Metal exclusion before size reduction reduces damage to cutting equipment
Polymer behaviour
PET is moisture- and shear-sensitive during melt processing; IV loss scales with temperature, residence time, and moisture content. Additives and copolymer content from source material affect crystallisation and end properties.
Origin: South Africa.
