Overview
HDPE granules (recycled and virgin) suit rigid applications: crates, drums, pipe, and thick-walled mouldings. LDPE granules favour flexibility and clarity in film and coating uses. LLDPE granules (linear low-density polyethylene) use short-chain branching for puncture resistance and toughness in film relative to classic LDPE.
Pellet form reduces dust versus powder or flake and meters consistently in gravimetric feeders. Each polymer family has distinct typical melt flow ranges, densities, and comonomer content (especially for LLDPE: C4, C6, C8 alpha-olefin types).
Specification dimensions
- Melt flow index (MFI/MFR) at stated test load and temperature
- Density (solid or melt)
- Colour (natural, black, or coloured concentrates)
- Recycled content percentage where declared
Processing notes
Recycled pellets may show broader MFR spread and higher gel count than virgin; filtration and mixing with virgin dilute defects. LLDPE film extrusion often uses narrow die gaps and bubble stability tuning versus LDPE.
Applications by family
HDPE: pressure pipe, bottles, industrial parts. LDPE/LLDPE: stretch wrap, shrink film, bags, lamination substrates.
